THOUSANDS OF BOOKS TO KMTC COURTESY OF A DIASPORA-LED INITIATIVE

Wednesday, June 11, 2025(NAIROBI)__Books For Africa in partnership with the State Department for Diaspora Affairs, and the State Department for Public Health and Professional Standards today handed over 40,000 medical books to the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC)-Nairobi Campus.

The whole-of-Government collaboration aligns with Diaspora Affairs initiative to mobilize Kenya’s global diaspora for the country’s socio-economic transformation.

The exercise made possible through diaspora-linked partnerships and philanthropy, amplifies the critical role of the diaspora whose expertise, networks and resources can be harnessed for meaningful development back at home.

Ms. Irene Karari, Director of the Skills and Expertise Division, while representing Diaspora Affairs PS Roseline K. Njogu, CBS, commended Books for Africa for their generosity, adding that knowledge and skills transfer are fundamental particularly in critical sectors like healthcare, where current clinical training can be life-saving.

Additionally, the initiative directly reinforces the the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), which prioritizes expanded access to quality health care, the strengthening of health worker training and the building of institutional capacity.

The learning resources will not only enhance academic understanding but also equip our future doctors, nurses, clinical officers and allied health professionals with the latest knowledge and clinical competencies required in modern medical practice.

In her message, PS Njogu also encouraged more organizations and individuals within the Kenyan diaspora to invest in skills development back home, whether in health, agriculture, technology or the creative industries.

At hand to receive and flag off the distribution of the books were Mr. Joseah Cheruiyot, the KMTC Board Chair and Dr. Kelly Oluoch, the CEO-KMTC among other senior Government officials.
