Welcome to The State Department for Diaspora Affairs.

The official website for The State Department for Diaspora Affairs.

Who We Are

The State Department for Diaspora Affairs works to protect, empower, and connect Kenyans abroad.

What We Do

Consular services, dialogue, safe labour migration, and investment support.

Why It Matters

Diaspora contributions power national development through skills and remittances.

The State Department for Diaspora Affairs is one of the two state departments in the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs. The State Department for Diaspora Affairs also abbreviated SDDA was established through a directive from H.E The President Dr. William Ruto in 2022 to address issues that concern Kenya's Diaspora community.

The Government of Kenya therefore intends to engage the Kenyan Diaspora in a more constructive, inclusive and productive manner to unlock and unleash their full potential.

Mission: To champion the protection of Kenya's diaspora rights and welfare and to mainstream them into national development.

Vision: An empowered diaspora for a competitive and prosperous Kenya.

Core Values: Diaspora centric, innovative, accountable, Reliable, Inclusive, and Team Spirit.

Our Mandate

Clear, accessible, and action-oriented.

Provide consular assistance, case escalation, and welfare interventions; promote fair treatment through bilateral and multilateral channels.

Maintain two-way communication (town halls, digital platforms) to gather feedback, co-create policy inputs, and resolve issues promptly.

Link Kenyans to credible job pathways and enterprise support; promote diaspora entrepreneurship and business facilitation.

Coordinate with stakeholders to facilitate eligibility, registration, civic education, and participation where applicable.

Lower transfer costs, encourage formal channels, and design incentives that increase impact and financial inclusion.

Mobilize savings (e.g., structured vehicles), facilitate FDI and partnerships, and enable technology/skills transfer into key sectors.

Coordinate policy rollout, strengthen compliance and oversight, and safeguard worker rights across the migration cycle.

Provide up-to-date investment information and sector briefs; connect investors to facilitation desks and aftercare support.

Develop bilateral pathways and MoUs, accredit credible recruiters, and ensure pre-departure orientation and support.

Integrate diaspora priorities into national plans and programmes; align initiatives across ministries, counties, and partners.
