KENYA, UGANDA TO STRENGTHEN COLLABORATIVE EFFORTS IN DIASPORA MANAGEMENT IN THE UAE

Tuesday, June 10, 2025(Abu Dhabi, UAE)__Diaspora Affairs Principal Secretary, Ms. Roseline K. Njogu, CBS, paid a courtesy visit to Ambassador Aisa Isamil, Deputy Head of Mission of Uganda to the UAE.

PS Njogu and Ms. Isamil, during the meeting, discussed joint strategies to protect and empower the Kenyan and Ugandan diaspora communities in the region.

PS Njogu commended Uganda’s dedication to diaspora welfare, and both leaders recognized the common challenges faced by their nationals living and working in the Middle East.

The conversation covered critical issues such as employment disputes, the increasing incidence of human trafficking, and the provision of consular support for nationals in distress.

The PS expressed interest in Uganda’s proactive measures, including the rigorous vetting of recruitment agencies, which have been instrumental in safeguarding Ugandan citizens.

Both parties agreed on the necessity for enhanced bilateral cooperation in diaspora affairs and emphasized the diaspora’s vital role in national development. They highlighted the importance of aligning their initiatives with the East African Community (EAC) Diaspora Policy, which aims to leverage the collective potential of East Africans abroad.

Through coordinated efforts, exchange of best practices, and collaboration on protective legal frameworks, Kenya and Uganda seek to establish effective and empowering systems that enable their diaspora to thrive and contribute significantly to the prosperity of their home countries and the wider region. #DiasporaFirst #KenyaInTheUAE
