Monday, February 2, 2026(NAIROBI)__The Government of Kenya has signed a Letter of Intent with Athari Global, a diaspora-owned Canadian firm, to significantly advance the Muuguzi Majuu Programme.
The signing ceremony, which formalized the strategic partnership, was led by Diaspora Affairs Principal Secretary Ms. Roseline Kathure Njogu CBS on behalf of the Government, and Dr. Deepak Soni, Chief Executive Officer of Athari Global.
The initiative is designed to be a model of ethical labour mobility where it focuses specifically on the high-demand sector of disability support services. The partnership focuses on the training of Kenyan professionals in disability support services within Kenya, followed by their placement with accredited employers in Canada.
The Letter of Intent provides the foundation for developing a detailed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which will outline the implementation, governance, and accountability structures for the full programme.
The initiative is designed to promote safe, ethical and orderly labor mobility through skills development, technology transfer, capacity building, and the establishment of clear and regulated mobility pathways for Kenyan workers in the Canadian care economy.
The initiative aligns with the Government’s broader labour mobility agenda, which prioritizes worker protection, skills recognition, and mutual benefit for the diaspora, Kenya and the host countries.
A pilot phase, a precursor to this formalized agreement, enrolled approximately 30 Kenyan trainees in disability support. Of these, 19 are already deployed and successfully working in Canada, sending a powerful proof-of-concept.
The expected scaling of the Muuguzi Majuu Programme signals a future where thousands of Kenyan health and care professionals can access international opportunities that honor their expertise, protect their well-being, and contribute to socio-economic growth through skills transfer.
This partnership stands as a testament to the power of strategic, diaspora-led collaboration, turning the challenge of global labour gaps into an opportunity for dignified growth and shared prosperity.
