DIASPORA-LED NEBRASKA TRADE AND INVESTMENT MISSION VISITS GALANA-KULALU IRRIGATION PROJECT

Sunday, September 7, 2025(COAST REGION )__In a key move to strengthen international agricultural cooperation, a Nebraska trade and investment delegation, led by the Nebraska’s Secretary of State, Hon. Robert B. Evnen, made a visit to the Galana-Kulalu Irrigation Scheme located in the Coast region.
Organized through a Kenyan Diaspora-led Trade and Investment Mission, the visit provided a crucial opportunity to explore practical prospects in sustainable agriculture and large-scale irrigation development.
The Nebraska team received a comprehensive briefing on the project’s operational structure and scale. They toured the extensive farming areas, gaining direct insight into the scheme’s capacity to transform food security and agribusiness in Kenya.
The delegation’s visit was coordinated by the Irrigation Principal Secretary, Mr. Ephantus Kimotho, and Eng. Charles Muasya, CEO of the National Irrigation Authority (NIA).
Representing Diaspora Affairs PS, Ms. Roseline K. Njogu, Amb. Isaiya Kabira, Secretary for Diaspora Investment, Skills and Entrepreneurship alongside Mr. Polycarp Otedo, Deputy Director in the Skills and Expertise Division accompanied the visiting delegation that also included Mr. Laban Njuguna, a Kenyan based in Nebraska, USA.
This diaspora-driven initiative forms a vital part of a broader strategy engaging Kenyans abroad to connect with international partners and investors across multiple economic sectors. Beyond capital investment, such missions foster the transfer of skills and technology.
It also highlights the significant role of Kenyan professionals abroad who, in partnership with the Government, contribute expertise in areas such as medicine, supporting sustainable development in Kenya. The Galana-Kulalu tour thus symbolizes a promising convergence of diaspora investment, knowledge sharing, and strategic collaboration.
