Monday, June 23, 2025(NAIROBI)__Diaspora Affairs Principal Secretary, Ms. Roseline K. Njogu,CBS has urged the Kenyan diaspora to take advantage of the diverse, Government-supported investment opportunities available back home.
The PS delivered the message during a Diaspora Working Breakfast organized by the State Department for Diaspora Affairs in partnership with the State Department for Housing and Urban Development.
The event was attended by PS Njogu alongside her counterparts: Housing and Urban Development PS Charles Hinga, ICT and Digital Economy PS John Tanui, Science, Research and Innovation PS Prof. Shaukat, and Kenya Investment Authority CEO John Mwendwa . The gathering brought together members of the Kenyan diaspora and representatives from various diaspora groups based in Nairobi.
Participants present were introduced to the Diaspora Investment Support Office (DISO) and the Affordable Housing Programme, both designed to provide clear, structured pathways for diaspora investment in Kenya.
While diaspora remittances—now exceeding traditional foreign exchange earnings—play a crucial role in Kenya’s socio-economic development, approximately 70–80% of these funds are spent on consumption needs such as food, rent, education, and other recurring expenses. This pattern limits long-term wealth creation and perpetuates financial dependency for many families.
Through DISO, the Government aims to simplify services and offer incentives to diaspora investors, encouraging engagement in sustainable, high-impact ventures across multiple sectors.
PS Charles Hinga encouraged the diaspora to fully utilize the investment opportunities available through the Affordable Housing Program.
Attendees also received an overview of the Central Bank of Kenya’s DhowCSD digital platform (@CBKKenya), which allows Kenyans abroad to invest remotely in Government securities like T-Bills and T-Bonds—eliminating the need for physical presence in Kenya.
The meeting highlighted the Government’s commitment to a whole-of-government approach, ensuring diaspora services are coordinated, efficient, and aligned across relevant ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs). This unified effort seeks to remove bureaucratic obstacles, streamline service delivery, and facilitate diaspora investment, settlement, and meaningful contribution to Kenya’s socio-economic growth.
PS Njogu was accompanied by Ambassador Isaiya Kabira, Secretary for Investments, Skills and Entrepreneurship, along with other senior officials from the State Department for Diaspora Affairs.
