Ambassador Ann Wanjohi, Director and Head of the Liaison and Partnerships Division, attended the Menstrual Hygiene Day 2025 event in West Pokot County, held under the global theme 'Together for a #PeriodFriendlyWorld'-breaking taboos, expanding access, and creating safe spaces for menstrual health education.
The theme underscored the importance of normalizing menstruation and promoting menstrual health as a key pillar of gender equality—a goal that can only be achieved through the collective efforts of all stakeholders, including the State Department for Diaspora Affairs.
Representing Diaspora Affairs PS, Ms. Roseline K Njogu, CBS, Ambassador Wanjohi emphasized the need for a whole-of-government approach to eliminate menstrual stigma and ensure equal opportunities, particularly in education.
She highlighted that addressing menstrual health aligns with SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, as these collaborations go beyond raising awareness to building a unified front that ensures no girl is left behind.
Commemorating Menstrual Hygiene Day also supports the broader Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), aiming to guarantee that all school-going girls have access to affordable menstrual hygiene products and support.
The event was graced by Ms. Hanna Wendot Cheptumo, Cabinet Secretary for Gender, Culture, the Arts and Heritage; PS Anne Wang'ombe, Gender and Affirmative Action; H.E. Simon Kachapin, Governor of West Pokot.
Others were local lawmakers; the area Women Representative; Senator of West Pokot County; CEOs of independent commissions; a representative from the Embassy of Denmark (Programme Manager, Gender and Health); the County Commissioner; and other county officials. #MHD25
