Thursday, May 28, 2026(NAIROBI)__Principal Secretary Ms. Roseline Kathure Njogu, CBS, Principal Secretary for Diaspora Affairs, held a collaborative meeting with Dr. Garry Conille, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Kenya, to explore areas of collaboration on diaspora affairs and migration governance.
Dr. Conille lauded the contribution of Kenya’s diaspora — now numbering over four million — to the country’s development and commended the Government of Kenya for its sustained efforts to deepen engagement with Kenyans abroad. He commended recent initiatives that recognize the diaspora’s role in advancing the national development agenda.
PS Njogu reviewed milestones achieved by the State Department for Diaspora Affairs since its establishment, highlighting programmes and policy measures that have strengthened diaspora engagement, enhanced labour mobility, protected welfare, and increased diaspora participation in national development.
She also outlined the Department’s strategic priorities and targeted initiatives designed to empower the diaspora and maximize their contribution to Kenya’s socio-economic growth.
Both leaders emphasized the importance of strengthened collaboration between the State Department and the United Nations system to promote the welfare and protection of Kenyans abroad. They agreed that multilateral cooperation and partnership frameworks are critical for addressing migration governance, safeguarding migrants’ rights, and unlocking the development potential of diaspora communities.
Dr. Conille was accompanied by Ms. Pravina Gurung, Senior Programme Manager, Labour Mobility; Ms. Wambui Gituku of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Mission in Nairobi; Mr. Stephen Gichohi, Youth and Programme Advisor; Ms. Zeinab Khalif, Partnerships Officer; and Mr. Augustine Karani, Communications Officer from the United Nations Resident Coordinator’s Office.
The State Department delegation included Ambassador Isaiya Kabira, Ambassador Ann Wanjohi, Ms. Joan Muchoki and Mr. Ledama Meisashi.
