MOURNING THE ENIGMA AT A STATE FUNERAL SERVICE HELD AT THE NYAYO NATIONAL STADIUM

Friday, October 17, 2025(NAIROBI)– Diaspora Affairs Principal Secretary, Ms. Roseline K. Njogu,CBS, today joined thousands of Kenyans from all walks of life converged at the Nyayo National Stadium for a state funeral service in honor of the former Prime Minister, the Right Honourable Raila Amolo Odinga, EGH.
The event, led by His Excellency President William Samoei Ruto, served as a tribute to the national icon, an enigma in Kenya’s political sphere. The former Prime Minister passed away while receiving medical treatment in India.
The service was a blend of a religious ceremony and an official state function, depicting Jakom as he was fondly known, as a colossal figure on the national, regional and international stage. The event was conducted with full military honors, a testament to his enduring legacy and status as a national hero.
The gathering was a testament to Odinga's far-reaching influence, attracting a diverse assembly of mourners. The dignitaries present included leaders from across the African continent, foreign diplomats, as well as national and county government officials, all united in their grief and respect.
Amidst the high-profile attendees, PS Njogu was entrusted with a particularly solemn and distinguished role of serving as the escort of honor for Her Excellency Mama Rebecca Nyandeng Garang, the Vice President of the Republic of South Sudan and Chair of the Gender and Youth Cluster.
The former Prime Minister will be laid to rest at his family home in Bondo, Siaya County on Sunday, 19th October, 2025.
