KENYA REAFFIRMS ITS DIASPORA AS KEY A PARTNER FOR NATIONAL GROWTH AT CAPE TOWN FORUM

Wednesday, October 8, 2025(CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA)__The Principal Secretary for Diaspora Affairs, Ms. Roseline K. Njogu,CBS has reinforced the Government's dedication to maintaining strong ties with Kenyans abroad and fully harnessing their potential in building Kenya's future.
The PS emphasized that the core mission of the State Department for Diaspora Affairs is the protection and support of its citizens overseas.
During a meeting with the Kenyan community in Cape Town, PS Njogu stated that the Department is actively expanding avenues for job placement, investment, and substantive involvement in national development. Concurrently, it is leveraging the significant skills, expertise, and technology that the diaspora contributes to Kenya's progress.
“The Kenyan diaspora is a cornerstone of our nation’s growth. Our goal is to ensure every Kenyan abroad is an active contributor to our social and economic development, including participation in the democratic processes that guide our country,” Ms. Njogu said.
She commended the diaspora for their substantial remittances, highlighting them as one of Kenya's most stable foreign exchange earners and a crucial support for many families. PS Njogu also encouraged Kenyans to consider diverse investment opportunities in various sectors, noting that their economic influence reaches far beyond remittance payments.
Furthermore, Ms. Njogu urged Kenyans in South Africa to use their professional skills and networks to create new prospects for their compatriots, adding that the diaspora acts as a critical link between Kenya and the international community.
The event was also attended by Mr. Idris Dokota,CBS, Principal Secretary for Cabinet Affairs, who outlined the Government's work to enhance diaspora-related policies, ensuring a unified strategy across all ministries.
Kenya's High Commissioner to South Africa, Amb. Jane Ndurumo, commended the large turnout and praised the community for being excellent representatives of Kenya, bolstering the country's positive image. She called for stronger cooperation between the Embassy and the diaspora, encouraging Kenyans to partner with the mission to advance mutual objectives in trade, investment, and community development.
PS Njogu is in South Africa to receive an award for the Government of Kenya that the State Department for Diaspora Affairs won in the Innovation in Digital Public Service Delivery Award. The honor recognizes the Diaspora Integrated Information Management System (DIIMS), a comprehensive web platform that allows Kenyans abroad to access numerous government services online.
