Friday, April 17, 2026(Washington D.C) – The Kenya diaspora round-table dinner, held on March 16, 2026, in Washington DC, convened Kenyan professionals, investors, and leaders for candid discussions on accelerating Kenya's economic future through strategic diaspora engagement.

Moderated by Diaspora Affairs Principal Secretary, Ms. Roseline Kathure Njogu, and graced by National Treasury Cabinet Secretary, Hon. FCPA John Mbadi, the event positioned the diaspora as central to Kenya's growth narrative.

It emphasized that the diaspora is not on the sidelines but sits at the heart of Kenya's development conversation. This as the event also provided a platform to highlight the historic U.S.-Kenya partnership rooted in education, trade, and people-to-people ties.

There was a fireside chat featuring five Kenyan professionals who have successfully invested in the country. Sharing unfiltered insights across real estate, agribusiness, and technology sectors, they underscored a common theme: abundant opportunities exist, but success hinges on structured support systems, institutional trust, and reliable frameworks. Their experiences marked a pivotal shift from remittances to wealth creation and job generation back home.

The Central Bank of Kenya Governor and National Treasury Cabinet Secretary delivered keynote remarks focusing on macroeconomic stability and investor confidence. They outlined reforms to bolster the financial ecosystem, streamline investment channels, and foster policy predictability—positioning Kenya as a premier destination for global Kenyan capital.

Also in attendance were PS Chris Kiptoo, State Department for Treasury, PS Shadrack Mwadime, State Department for Labour and Skills Development and the Kenya Mission in Washington DC staff led by Amb. David Kerich.

The round-table concluded with a resounding call to action: the foundation for diaspora-led development is solidifying, but realization demands purposeful investment.

"The diaspora possesses the networks, capital, and influence to drive transformation. Step forward, invest strategically, and help build the Kenya we envision," PS Njogu urged.

The gathering signals Kenya's maturing approach to diaspora engagement, moving beyond transactional remittances toward sustainable economic partnerships that leverage the full potential of its global community.
